- 'Zipper' could help company sew up computerized payroll market
-
- Are you tired of spending your precious time figuring out the payroll for
- your small business ? Does it seem to be the job you least enjoy and
- takes the most effort ?
-
- Help may have arrived.
-
- Softcraft, a young computer software company, might have the answer
- you've been looking for: Zipper Payroll 1.6.
-
- Zipper Payroll was developed specifically for small business to assist
- them in maintaining their payroll without having to hire an accountant or
- use outside payroll services. This computer program is designed to be
- user friendly, and does not require a lot of high-tech computer knowledge
- to operate.
-
- Designer Ed Protas explains that doing payroll is labor intensive, time
- intensive and is subject to minute errors. However, doing payroll, he
- says, is exactly the type of task computers were designed for. Being a
- small-business owner himself, Protas knows how tedious and time comsuming
- payroll processing can be. When designing Zipper Payroll specifically
- for the small business, Protas says he took much time and care ensuring
- that it was umcomplicated.
-
- "The last thing a small-business owner needs is to master another complex
- computer application while learning all the intricacies required to
- accurately process payroll," he said.
-
- Protas says he wanted to design a computer program that users could run
- almost immediately, even without having accounting, payroll or computer
- experience.
-
- "Zipper Payroll was designed to utilize the existing hardware found in
- most small business." Zipper Payroll is capable of running on any PC/MS-
- DOS-based personal computer with a hard disk drive and 640k of RAM.
-
- An added feature to Zipper Payroll is its comparability with the
- checkbook program, Quicken. Protas found this program was used by many
- small businesses to eliminate writing out checks by hand and the need to
- buy special checks, and Quicken takes care of the bank balance and writes
- the checks.
-
- In addition to its uncomplicated style and convenient features, Zipper
- Payroll also has a unique distribution process. It is distributed in
- comjunction with the Association of Shareware Professionals. Shareware
- is a computer disk vendor that makes computer programs available to
- customers at a nominal fee of about $5, so they can evaluate the program
- for themselves. If the customer decides they like the program, they send
- their registration fee to the author of the program.
-
- "Shareware authors don't have to spend a lot of money to market their
- program. They can let it market itself by word-of-mouth, by other users,
- and by people doing reviews on it. That savings really gets passed on to
- the purchaser," Protas explained. After you have eperimented with
- Zipper Payroll, and you like its features, the price for registration is
- $62, plus $5 for shipping and handling. Zipper Payroll is also available
- on various bulleting board systems.
- Protas is confident in this unique distribution process. "A bad
- Shareware product will never be successful because no one will ever pay
- for something that isn't good. But, there's a lot of bad commercial
- software out there because people have paid a lot of money for it before
- they found out it really wasn't very good."
-
- Protas has high hopes for Zipper Payroll and his company. "I hope to
- make Bill Gates tremble !"
